25 – Los Angeles and Las Vegas

Arriving in LA was a shock to the system, it was raining and 12 degrees. It had been mid 30s in Fiji. It took ages to get through all the procedures at LAX but we eventually made our way to our hotel. Neither of us like Los Angeles very much. It’s quite grubby and false, but it was our entry point to the US so we had decided to spending a few days here to recover from the jetlag. Sunday 25 March was the longest day ever. With the time difference the day lasted 43 hours!

Our hotel was basic, which means that it wasn’t in the glitzy, glamourous areas of LA. It was on the edge of Hollywood next to Little Armenia and down the road from Koreatown.

We did some sightseeing around Santa Monica, Beverley Hills and Hollywood Boulevard where we met some of the stars!

One day we had lunch in a 50’s style diner, kept looking round to see where the cast from Happy Day’s were.
There was a family sitting at a table behind us. it took a minute to work out who was the mother and who was the daughter. The mother had had a face lift but once you looked at the rest of her body you could tell that the face may look to be that of a 20 year old but the body was at least double that.

After a few days it was time to move on so we drove the four and a half hour journey through the Mojave desert to Las Vegas.

Sin City is an adult playground. We had booked into Hooter’s Casino Hotel (Syd’s choice).

Hooter’s is just off The Strip, across the road from MGM.

We had a great time visiting the casinos, clubs and shows in various hotels.

Vegas has changed a lot since we were last here over ten years ago. There are quite a few new hotels on Las Vegas Boulevard.

They have been squeezed in between the older hotels. It spoils it a bit. All the hotels are large and have their own theme, but because they have been sandwiched between the other hotels you can’t get a good view of each individual hotel.

We must have walked miles and miles visiting the various casinos. Unfortunately we didn’t win.
